Most of These plants will be available for Shipping beginning the first week of May from our area. The plants that ship in May will need to be ordered by April 1 in order to make sure the plants you want will be potted ready for shipment in time. Herbs, Native Plants, and Landscape Perennials.

Plants are shipped bare root in damp vermiculite or in small pots with peat and vermiculite and are ready to pot larger or plant when you receive them.

Plants are 6 to 8 inches in height when they arrive will grow to 24to 36 in. - Sun to lt. shade Zones 2 to 10 - Thrives in Avg. to wet soil Round, segmented, reed-like stems are essentially leafless. Evergreen. Stoloniferous. It prefers, but does not require, wet soil. Commonly used at the edge of ponds or streams. The Equisetum species are found on every continent except Australia. Equisetums have hardly changed since prehistoric times, when they formed a large part of the vegetation that decomposed to form coal seams. They contain alkaloids and various minerals, and are a great source of silica. Because of the abrasive property of silica, they were used for scouring pots and pans.

Often found along old railroad tracks, as the rail workers used them for diswashing,The discarded stems took root and flourished. However never harvest from railroad bed locations as the tracks were generally contaminated with arsenic in the construction process.

ST. JOHNS WORT - NATIVE HERB PLANTS

St. Johns Wort (hypericum perforatum) Height: 15" Light: sun to part shade Winter Hardy to Zone 3, but will grow in most other zones above 3

The blooms are pretty yellow flowers with 5 petals, and it is a winter hardy perenniel that can spread but is not neccasarily invasive. Description: Historically the astringent and antibacterial leaves have been used medicinally and are still used externally by herbalists to treat burns. St. Johns Wort is gaining popularity as an alternative treatment for some forms of depression.

For centuries, northern European women wore hypericum to repel demon lovers. With the spread of Christianity the plant was associated with John the Baptist; it was said that it flowers on his birthday and bleeds red oil in August on the day he was beheaded.

Yellow and red dyes are obtained depending on the mordant used. The infused oil of the flowers is also used by herbalists in liniment type massage oils for minor aches and pains.

When you hold the leaves of the true hypericum perforatum up to the light you can see hundreds of little holes (or perforations) where the sunlight shows through, this is an identification key to know you have the true St. Johns Wort of legend among herbalists.

These plants are sent with the bare root packed in moist vermiculite and are ready to pot or plant as soon as you recieve them.
